Dili 21/6/12—The Anti-Corruption Commission team paid a first courtesy visit yesterday morning to President Taur Matan Ruak at the Presidential Palace Nicolao Lobato Aitarrak-Laran, Dili The purpose of the meeting was, besides congratulating President of the Republic who was sworn-in to office last month, it aimed at informing the head of state about the work of CAC. Commissioner Adérito de Jesus Soares informed that CAC’s work concentrates on three important areas: education outreach and research, prevention, and investigation of public corruption. In addition, Commissioner Aderito de Jesus shared with President Ruak about the challenges and difficulties in building CAC as institution and in its work in combating corruption so far. President welcomed and appreciated all the efforts that CAC has been put forward since CAC’s establishment two years ago, that, despite its young age, CAC has contributed significantly to the process of combating corruption in Timor-Leste. President also stated that he is committed to work closely with CAC in combating corruption in the country. In this first official courtesy visit, Commissioner Adérito de Jesus was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Manuel Bucar, Executive Secretary Alexander Freitas and Directress Maria de Vasconselhos.
