Dili – Deputy Commissioner of CAC, Manuel Bucar Corte Real yesterday led a delegation to meet with the President of the Republic of Timor-Leste, Taur Matan Ruak, at Palásiu Prezidenti Nicolau Lobato, Bairo Pite Dili.
The objective of the meeting was to inform the Head of State about CAC’s work for its first four-year mandate. The delegation also asked for his continued support for CAC’s work, and to campaign about the importance of preventing corruption by the people and leaders of Timor-Leste.
President Taur congratulated CAC for its work during the first mandate led by former Commissioner Adérito de Jesus Soares, saying that despite encountering numerous challenges and obstacles, CAC executed its work program well. He encouraged CAC to carry its good work and ensure collaboration with other state entities as a collective strategy to prevent and combat corruption.
The President is also said he was aware of certain challenges currently facing CAC such as the lack of political commitment for anti-corruption measures. However, he believed these dificulties could encourage Timorese to build a state that promotes the rule of law and a just and less corrupt society.
Deputy Commissioner Bucar was accompanied by Executive Secretary, Alexandre Freitas, Director of Education and Research, Interim Director of Investigation and National Adviser. (*)
