Dili, 29/06/2012–Timor-Leste’s Executive Summary reviewing its self-assessment on the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) was adopted during the recent Implementation Review Group (IRG) meeting in Vienna. Timor-Leste is the fourth country among 41 State Parties under review in 2011 to publish its Executive Summary. The other three countries are Australia, Switzerland and Georgia.
The Anti-Corruption Commission has been the leading agency for Timor-Leste’s review process and was supported by the United Nations Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT). Commissioner Adérito de Jesus Soares commented that the publication of this Executive Summary is a great achievement for Timor-Leste in compliance with the Convention’s obligation and also for the country to reflect on its efforts in combating corruption.
“It serves as a mirror for us to see where we are now in terms of combating corruption in the country and it helps us to identify challenges and opportunities for further future implementation of the Convention in Timor-Leste,” said Commissioner.
The full analytical report of the Self-Assessment Review is expected to be finalized before the next IRG meeting in November 2012. Timor-Leste is working closely with the reviewing countries, Namibia and Fiji as well as the Review Mechanism Secretariat to finalize it. English version of the Executive Summary is attached. Tetum and Portuguese versions will be available at a later date.
