Dili-14/05/2012—Deputy Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (CAC)for Education, Campaign and Research affairs, Jose Antonio de Jesus das Neves, last week led two separate meetings with representatives of state and non-state actors in preparation for the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) Country Review Team visit next week.

According to Deputy Commissioner Neves, the meetings aimed at informing the national stakeholders regarding the status of Timor-Leste’s UNCAC Self-Assessment Review as well as preparing the stakeholders for the visit of the Review Team. Timor-Leste’s UNCAC Self-Assessment process started last year 2011following the Government, through the Council of Ministers’, appointment of CAC as a focal point representing Timor-Leste and to take lead in the review process. This is the First Cycle of the UNCAC Review mechanism, which focuses on Chapter III regarding Criminalization and Law Enforcement and Chapter IV International Cooperation.  With the support of the Secretariat of the Review Mechanism of UNCAC and the United Nations Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) the Anti-Corruption Commission reviewed more than 300 questioners related to the above two chapters’ implementation.
